School Year Piano Lessons
Hello everyone!
I hope you are all having an enjoyable summer and that it has been filled with adventures and memory-making.
Wow! What a summer I have had so far! Aside from a ‘little bit’ of relaxing, I’ve also been doing some travel, reading, learning and planning, as I prepare for another exciting year of piano lessons.
A lot of information was given to you in June. I know it was a busy time for everyone so this email is to touch base with you about August Fall Start-Up in the hopes that it arrives when you have a moment to write some things on your calendar.
- When do lessons start? Set a reminder and mark your calendar: our fall term of lessons will begin on August 26 – no lessons the first week of school. However, Fairfax County has a holiday on Labor Day, September 2. If you normally have Monday lessons and want a lesson that first week of September, there is some time available on other days. Please let me know.
For ease of scheduling, I’m keeping the same days/lesson times as last year. If you need to make a change, please let me know as soon as possible.
- What do your children need? Having your books and notebook ready for the first day of lessons will ensure an efficient start – so please remember to bring them! A bit of review might be in order. If you have an iPad, please bring that, too.
- Is your piano dusty? Summer is full of family fun and this might mean that your children may not have been practicing as much as they do during the school year. This is understandable. I can promise, however, that your children will be even more excited about returning to lessons if they feel prepared and ready to learn. Setting up a practice schedule for the weeks leading up to the return of lessons is a great idea. Plan for at least 15 minutes of practice a day during the rest of the summer and, if possible, schedule it in the morning before the day’s activities begin.
In addition to the regular fun we have at the studio, I have been planning some new and exciting ways for your children to enjoy the piano and become even better musicians. Here are just a few things your children can look forward to:
- New tween and teen piano games! Yes, even the older students in the studio will get off the bench for some hands-on, game-based learning
- New music! I’ve been busy collecting a lot of repertoire during the summer months and am so excited to share the new music with your children this year.
- Student Portal: This year I am requiring all students under 17 to log their practice time in our Student Portal. If you’ve forgotten, there’s more info here.

2026 Fall Piano Lesson Registration
I hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer! I hope you’ve enjoyed time to relax, travel, and make special memories.
It’s time to start thinking about music again! Piano lessons at O’Connor Music Studio will resume on Tuesday, September 9, and I’d love to have your child back for another year of music-making.
If you haven’t already selected a lesson time, please let me know your preferred day and time as soon as possible. Lesson times are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Current availability:
- 🎹 Monday: All lesson times available
- 🎹 Wednesday: All lesson times available
- 🎹 Friday: All lesson times available
- 🎹 Tuesday: Available between 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Adults are highly encouraged to take hour-long lessons but are always welcome to schedule half-hour lessons at first.

Keep Up-To-Date with the Student/Parent Portal
The O’Connor Music Studio features fully functional parent/student portals. These are a great way to share information with you, save time, and add value to your lessons.
The student portal provides you with:
- Student’s calendar with upcoming lessons and events
- Student’s repertoire
- Student’s practice log
- Family’s account and invoice information (only visible to parents/adult students)
- Access to your download library and a list of borrowed items
- View student’s attendance
- Track student’s practice time and leave notes or questions from the practice session
- Add and track their repertoires
- View their email history
- View Mrs. O’Connor’s contact information
- Keep up-to-date with studio news
Students can also join and cancel lessons based on the OCMS studio cancellation policy.
Using the student portal is completely optional, but highly recommended.
How do I join the Student Portal?
To join the student portal your teacher must send you your login information. Once received you will be able to access the student portal and all of its features.
How do I cancel a Lesson?
To cancel a scheduled lesson simply click on the lesson or event in your calendar and click “Cancel Attendance”. You can optionally leave your teacher a note about why you are canceling in the provided “Note to Teacher” dialogue box.
How do I register for an Open Lesson Slot?
To register for an Open Lesson Slot click on the event or lesson on the calendar as select “Register”. A dialogue box will appear asking you if you “are you sure you want to register for this Open Slot?” Click “Yes”. If the lesson or event you are trying to register for is a recurring event, choose the dates you would like to attend.
Check your email for information about logging in!
