This book looks like it would be interesting to use as a review or to look ahead and see what’s coming.  I have just ordered a copy for the studio if you want to check it out at the next lesson.

Barbershop harmony is music in a very pure form created with nothing but human voices coming together to create a rich and satisfying texture that is pleasing to the ears and invigorating to the soul. The barbershop style is unaccompanied vocal music characterized by four-part chords. The melody is sung by the lead, with the tenor harmonizing above the melody, the bass singing the lowest notes, and the baritone completing the chord.

For more about the barbershop style, please click here.

About the Harmony Heritage Singers:

We are the Harmony Heritage Singers, a group of retired gentlemen who enjoy singing together in the distinctive barbershop style. Under our director, Bob Wachter, we rehearse twice a month during the day at Sherwood Regional Library in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. We also present about 25 performances a year, mostly at retirement communities and seniors groups in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Conductor Transforms 15 Little Children Into Concert Pianists in Only 5 Weeks

In this new campaign by Folksam, one of the largest insurance companies in Sweden, 15 children, aged 2 to 5, were invited to participate in a challenging musical experiment lead by Sweden’s famous conductor, oboist and composer, Jan Risberg.

For a duration of five weeks, these lively and boisterous children would take piano classes in order to learn a 19th-century musical piece by French composer and pianist Erik Satie. The entire experience was intended to be playful and fun for the kids.

Risberg used creative techniques to teach the chords and the melody, like colored keys, sound boxes and simple word associations like “pancake”.

And the result is possibly the most endearing thing we’ve ever seen!
