Christmas Music, Part 9 – Mary Did You Know

Mary Did You Know

The Pender Choir sang an arrangement of this Christmas Carol December 2, 2012 and as part of the 2015 Christmas Cantata.

Mark Lowry wrote the words in 1984 when his pastor asked him to write the program for the living Christmas tree choir presentation. The music was written by Buddy Greene.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would some day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy would give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when your kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

Oh Mary did you know

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will walk again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding is the great I AM

The Magic Flute ~ Coming to Daniels Run Elementary School

MagicFlute

Music will fill Daniels Run Elementary at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, November 20, as the Children’s Opera Company performs “The Magic Flute” as a cultural arts assembly for students in grades 3 – 6. The assembly aligns with the fifth grade Program of Studies proscribed work, Mozart’s Magic Flute, while giving students an opportunity to experience a live opera, modified and adapted for a school-age audience.

Some members of the Daniels Run Singers will participate in the performance, and the sixth grade chorus will perform four adapted arias during the performance.  This professional touring ensemble performs opera for young audiences in Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and was started by an FCPS music teacher.

The Daniels Run PTA and Daniels Run Singers activity fund are underwriting the cost of the performance.

Two of Europe’s most esteemed ensembles share the stage for a sublime evening of Spanish and French classical music. The Munich Symphony Orchestra is one of Germany’s most venerated musical institutions, held in high esteem by audiences, critics, and experts alike. This important orchestra has enriched the cultural life of Bavaria with its unparalleled performances of symphonic concert pieces, opera and operettas, musicals, ballets, oratorios, and church music. The pairing of this orchestra with conductor Philippe Entremont, who is renowned for his outstanding interpretive abilities on the podium, creates a stunning collaboration. The orchestra is joined by Spanish classical guitar virtuoso Pepe Romero for a solo work. Mr. Romero is then joined by the other members of his quartet, an ensemble that has a sterling reputation in the world of classical music. As New York Times said, “the only classical guitar quartet of real stature in the world today; in fact, they virtually invented the format.” The Washington Post praised the Munich Symphony Orchestra for “conjuring up a joyous whirlwind of sound that ultimately launched the music blazing into the ether.”
